WBIR Talks with KOC Physician on Basketball Injuries and Prevention

Basketball season is underway for both youth and college athletes.

WBIR spoke with KOC sports medicine specialist Dr. Amber Luhn to learn the most common basketball injuries and strategies to prevent them.

Dr. Luhn offers insight on the best exercises and stretches athletes can perform to strengthen muscles and reduce the risk of injury.

As a pediatric sports medicine specialist, Dr. Luhn enjoys helping young athletes overcome or manage their medical conditions to return to play and take their sport to the next level.

Dr. Luhn serves as team physician for Karns High School and UT athletics. Her primary responsibilities for UT athletics are with the women’s soccer and basketball teams.

As the official sports medicine provider for Knox County Schools, KOC places certified athletic trainers at 13 Knox County high schools as well as schools in numerous surrounding counties to provide sports medicine coverage at practice, in training rooms and on the sidelines at games. These are healthcare professionals who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. They work closely with KOC physicians and physical therapists to make sure any injured athletes get the best care possible to get back to their sport.
