Newsweek Names KOSC Among America’s Best ASCs

Knoxville Orthopaedic Surgery Center (KOSC) has been recognized by Newsweek as one of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers for 2027. The West Knoxville outpatient facility is the only specialized orthopaedic center in Knoxville to earn the title, selected from an analysis of more than 5,000 surgery centers nationwide. It is the second time in three years that the facility has been listed, having earned a spot in 2024 as well.

Newsweek works with global data intelligence firm Statista to evaluate and rank the country’s top centers for outpatient care, citing the vital role these facilities serve in the U.S. healthcare system to provide safe, efficient surgical care for procedures that don’t require overnight hospital stays. The scores are based on quality metrics, peer evaluation, patient experience and accreditations.

“Safety, positive outcomes and affordability matter to our patients and are central to our mission to improve lives through patient-centered care,” said Dr. Douglas Calhoun, hand surgeon and medical director of KOSC. “It’s gratifying to receive this recognition and a testament to the integrity, skill and dedication of our team.”

Newsweek evaluates ambulatory surgery centers using data from patient satisfaction surveys, recommendations from healthcare professionals, and quality and safety measures from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Leapfrog Group.

KOSC has been recognized by Leapfrog as a Top Ambulatory Surgery Center for the last five consecutive years and was awarded a Full Transparency Badge from the watchdog organization in August.
