Dr. Kyle Boden talks spring sports with WATE Living East Tennessee

Dr. Kyle Boden recently sat down with Living East Tennessee to discuss the importance of keeping young athletes safe as they get ready for spring sports. As the days warm up, it’s a crucial time for parents, coaches and athletes to be mindful of their physical health.

One of the biggest challenges in today’s youth sports is the emphasis on year-round or specialized sports, where athletes focus on one sport exclusively.

A rise in ACL knee injuries is happening among young athletes. Overuse injuries are quite common due to focusing on a single sport, putting strain on certain muscle groups and increasing the risk of injury.

KOC recommends children engage in different physical activities to reduce stress on one part of the body. To help prevent injuries like ACL tears, it’s important for kids to participate in multiple sports and practice strength training for the whole body.

As a sports medicine surgeon, Dr. Boden works closely with athletic trainers, physical therapists and coaches to create safe and effective training plans with injury prevention strategies. This ensures that young athletes are trained properly, the key to maintaining long-term health.

Additionally, Dr. Boden specializes in a technique that focuses on repairing ACL injuries that also helps to prevent future damage. Since the ACL is very close to the growth plate, improper technique can cause severe long-term growth and development issues.

As a former student-athlete who once received care here at KOC, Dr. Boden understands firsthand the importance of keeping young athletes safe. We’re thankful to have Dr. Boden on our team!

Dr. Boden practices at the KOC Maryville office, located at 827 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. Patients can request an appointment with him here!
