Dr. Michael Eilerman Retires After More Than 30 Years of Orthopaedic Care

After more than three decades of caring for patients in East Tennessee, Dr. Michael Eilerman is retiring from Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic.

Since joining Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic in 1993, Dr. Eilerman has made a lasting impact on his patients and the East Tennessee community through his dedication to orthopaedic trauma care and hip replacement surgery.

“Over the past 25 years, he’s been an outstanding partner and friend,” said Dr. Michael McCollum, fellow Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic joint replacement surgeon. “He is someone that all the staff love, and I know they’re going to miss him. I’m going to miss having him around on a daily basis as well.”

Before joining Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic, Dr. Eilerman completed extensive training in orthopaedic surgery and trauma. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, followed by an orthopaedic traumatology fellowship at Tampa General Hospital, where he was named Fellow of the Year in 1993.

Throughout his career, Dr. Eilerman has provided care for a range of orthopaedic needs and developed a particular interest in hip replacement surgery. He was the first orthopaedic surgeon in Knoxville to perform anterior approach hip replacement and has performed more than 2,500 of these procedures.

“You’ve had terrific results in taking care of tens of thousands of people both in the trauma world and arthroplasty,” said Dr. Scott Smith, fellow Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic trauma surgeon. “You’re an incredible surgeon and an even better person.”

Dr. Eilerman’s dedication to patient care has earned recognition from the community, including being named a Cityview Top Doctor numerous times throughout his career.
