Dr. Benson A. Scott joined Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic in 2008. He specializes in non-operative orthopaedics and sports medicine. He treats youth and adult acute injuries as well as chronic and overuse-related injuries. He also treats degenerative issues such as arthritis as well as other problems of the feet, ankles, knees, hips, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders. His goal is to give orthopaedic issues a sufficient opportunity to be treated with conservative measures before resorting to surgical options. He specializes in ultrasound guided injections to best localize injection sites. He offers Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections as a regenerative medicine option in situations where surgery may not be desired or possible.
Dr. Scott received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee where he played on the 1997 and 1998 SEC championship teams and the 1998 national championship football team. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis and completed his residency at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Dr. Scott did his fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute and Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama, where he trained under world-renowned orthopaedist Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Tracy Ray, team physician at Duke University.
Dr. Scott is the team physician for Carson-Newman University as well as several local high schools. He was the team physician for the University of West Alabama in 2007 and 2008. He serves as the head physician each year for the Southeastern Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament. During his residency, Dr. Scott served as resident team physician for the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Central High School in Chattanooga and The McCallie School. He has helped care for the Knoxville Smokies who are a part of the Chicago Cubs MLB organization. He has been part of medical missions to Peru and sports missions to Mexico and France.
Dr. Scott and his wife Toni, both Knoxville natives, are happy to raise their three children in East Tennessee. When he isn’t involved in sporting event coverage or coaching his children’s sports teams, Dr. Scott enjoys playing golf, snow skiing, hunting and fishing.
