John Dean
John Dean is a licensed physical therapist, certified athletic trainer, and board-certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy.
He provides rehabilitation services for University of Tennessee student-athletes and is the course instructor for UT’s Kinesiology, Recreation & Sports Studies (KNS 335), an introduction to the foundations and principles of athletic training and sports medicine. John has volunteered with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association medical pool since 2012, providing sports medicine coverage for the U.S. men’s alpine ski team.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from San Diego State University and a Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. John is an experienced clinician and educator who is active in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the American Physical Therapy Association and has been an invited speaker at many regional and national conferences. He joined OrthoTennessee in 2010 and has served as director of rehabilitation with the University of Tennessee Sports Medicine staff since 2005.
John enjoys skiing, running, and hiking with friends and family. He and his wife, Kris, live in Knoxville with their daughters, Addison and Tyler.
