Patient Testimonials

Thanks to my outpatient total knee replacement just 8 weeks ago with Dr. Nadaud at Knoxville Orthopaedic Surgery Center, I'm already able to work on my garden. I'm also excited about fishing and hunting season this year, as I wasn't able to go much last year due to my pain.

Soon after my hip replacement, I committed to a 28.3 mile hike for CureSearch (it turned out to be closer to 32 miles). Over the course of the 4 months following surgery I began walking and hiking and ended up with 360 training miles logged during that time. Early on November 10th we began our hike in honor and memory of all the kids. Our hike was on the Foothills Trail-we started in NC and ended in SC. It was an amazing experience and I felt truly blessed to be able to participate. My hip did amazing! Thanks to Dr. Botero for being a wonderful surgeon! #CureSearch-Telling Children's Cancer to Take a Hike!

Thanks to my care at KOC, I can walk straight without leaning forward. I was scared to death about having hip surgery...then I met Dr. Botero. He and his staff are awesome. Everyone was so kind, patient, knowledgeable...and they made me feel special. The experience from start to finish went so smoothly, (I just did water aerobics for the first time in years!) I'm almost looking forward to having my second hip done (almost). I am looking forward to being a whole new person in only a few months.
Before my surgery, I was not able to stand up straight and every time I walked, I was in pain. During my consultation, Dr. Botoro explained to me why I was in pain and also why I was bent over and explained how surgery would change my posture and gait. He even took the time to show me my x-rays as an illustration.
I was still skeptical, but everything Dr. Botero had told me - well, I have to admit, it turned out to be soooo true. The very same day of my surgery, I was able to walk down the hall - standing up straight for the first time in at least a was so exciting! Before I knew it, I was off the pain medications and shortly thereafter released from physical therapy and Dr. Botero released me without any restrictions.
I can't say thank you enough to Dr. Botero and his team. Thank you for giving me more than I ever expected.

Thanks to my son's care at KOC, I can rest easy knowing he is taken great care of. Dr. Gaylord will not preform unnecessary surgeries or procedures. He is awesome with Carson, who has cerebral palsy. Carson loves him.
– Carson, Maryville
Thanks to Dr. Sears and my care at KOC, I can do everything I love now. The scoliosis surgery I received in 2012 was a life changer for me. The surgery helped me in so many ways. I can do everything I love now without worrying about hurting myself or pain.

Thanks to my hip replacement with Dr. Nadaud, I am back on the tennis court, golf course and trail riding with my wife. Life is great.

Thanks to my care at KOC, I can move around so much better. Dr. Nadaud was a little skeptical because I have RA & Lupus, that would make it harder to do. Right knee was done in 2015, no problem and I was nervous. This TEAM sure put me at ease. Turned out great. Then in 2017 I had the second knee replaced, I did super. Just had my right hip replaced and my RA is worse so I dreaded this so bad. Went through it with a breeze. I love being able to talk with his nurse or NP. They are a great team to work with. I strongly recommend. I felt great each time I left and well prepared for surgery and recovery.

Thanks to his care at KOC for club feet, my son Mike has played a variety of sports. He started soccer at 3 and played until he was seven. He also played T-ball, baseball and basketball. This summer and fall he took a break from team sports to concentrate on taekwondo. At the age of 8, Mike earned his black belt in TKD. Not only did he have to do the TKD but he had to do sit-ups, push-ups and run a 12 min mile. In September Mike won a medal at a Taekwondo United tournament in Huntsville, Alabama. Thanks for everything Dr. Crawford!

Thanks to the care provided by Dr. Gaylord during his fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, I was able to return to competitive lacrosse. As captain of the Peterborough Jr. C Lakers, we were able to win the Meredith Cup as Provincial Jr. C Champions. I am also playing lacrosse for Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. Thank you for all you did for me.

Thanks to my care at KOC in 1960 for clubfeet, I can walk like a normal person. Though I struggled with foot pain all my life, I give credit to KOC. I'm sure technology wasn't great then. My accounts come my mom. Full leg cast at 18 months and later the shoes and bar to hold my feet at 45 degrees during bedtime. I do remember vividly wearing them. I went to KOC often during my elementary years for many follow ups. Anyway 2018 is a new chapter at KOC with my wrist. Same professionalism, you just don't get cherry lollipops anymore.

Thanks to my care from Dr. Smith at KOC, I was able to quickly recover from a torn ACL in my left knee in 2011. In 2013, I enlisted in the US Army Infantry. Now, in September 2018, I am a Staff Sergeant in a Reconnaissance Platoon, stationed in Hawaii. My knee has traveled thousands of miles, taken me through other countries, and has served me well. Thanks to KOC and the amazing team that fixed me up!
I really wish you guys were over here in Oahu, because 2 days ago I fell off an obstacle during a platoon training event, and re-injured the same knee. I felt and heard it pop as it buckled and bent sideways. Hopefully the Army will take care of me as well as KOC did, although I doubt it.

Thanks to my care at KOC, I can fight cancer. In November 1998, I tore my left ACL playing intramural flag football. I was a freshman at UT and it was my first time really being away from home. When I went to the Student Health Center, they referred me to Dr. Mathien. He was so kind and reassuring. He told me about my ACL tear and set me up for surgery. He gave me clear instructions for my recovery and held me accountable. He did such excellent work that I returned to all my normal activities and haven't had any problems since. Perhaps most importantly, though, he inspired me to consider surgery as a career.
I came from a very small town and never even considered that I might be able to become a surgeon. But, I thought it was such a miracle that he was able to fix my knee and I could return to the sports and the active lifestyle I enjoyed. Not only did he inspire me, but he also inspired my twin sister, Lydia, who came to every appointment with me. We both went on to attend Vanderbilt Medical School with full scholarships, where our love of the operating room was confirmed. Lydia went on to become an orthopedic surgeon. She completed her fellowship at the Andrews Institute not too long ago. I was called into General Surgery and I now have a practice in Murfreesboro, TN. The majority of my practice involves taking care of breast cancer patients. As I take care of these women, I think about Dr. Mathien and all the lives he has touched, without even knowing it.
My left knee remains as good as new. I've run two half marathons, ride horses all the time, hike, and travel all over the world without any problems. I just wanted to thank Dr. Mathien and KOC for all you've done for me.
