Brian Hicks, ATC, CSCS
Site Coordinator
Brian
Hicks is an athletic trainer with OrthoTennessee. He received
a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Tennessee.
Brian has been an athletic trainer since 1994. He is affiliated with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
He became an athletic trainer to stay involved with athletics and to help people achieve their goals. He describes his role in the clinic as being a clinician that will help patients meet their rehabilitation goals and is functionally minded with a focus on the whole body when treating injuries.
According to Brian the most enjoyable thing about being an athletic trainer is having the ability to help individuals return to their previous level of function. “I enjoy helping people realize their potential whether they think they can do it or not,” Brian says.
He says he enjoys working with young athletes in the area of performance enhancement and also enjoys hunting and spending time with his family.
Rachel Amos, PTA
Rachel
Amos is a physical therapist assistant with OrthoTennessee. She
received an associate’s degree and a physical therapy assistant certification
from Roane State Community College.
Rachel has been a physical therapist assistant since August, 2006, and says she became a physical therapy assistant to help people get back their lives. “I enjoy working with people of all ages and personalities,” Rachel says.
She describes her role in the clinic as helping the therapist with the patient load and providing the best patient care with in the plan provided by the therapist.
In her spare time, Rachel is a stained glass artist. She has two cats that she describes as “her children” and is fond of her fiancé Matt. “He’s the light of my life.”
Thaddeus Mackiewicz, Jr., PT
Thaddeus Mackiewicz is a physical therapist with OrthoTennessee. He received a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science with a minor in psychology from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree and doctorate in physical therapy from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Thaddeus has been a physical therapist since 2003. He says his role in the clinic is to observe the patient to see how and why an injury occurred and what is involved in rehabilitating. He describes himself as a team member with other physical therapists, occupational therapists and doctors to care for the patient’s rehabilitation.
“I became a physical therapist because I was interested in sports and medicine,” Thaddeus says. “My path of study led me to becoming a personal trainer and then a physical therapist.”
What he most enjoys about his work is seeing a patient re-gain functionality after injury.
In his spare time, Thaddeus enjoys reading biographies and history, working out, running, hiking and camping. He is married with two children.
Bill Pendegrass, PT, DPT
Bill Pendergrass is a physical therapist at OrthoTennessee. He specializes in the treatment of conditions of the spine, utilizing the McKenzie Method of mechanical diagnosis and treatment.
“I receive great satisfaction in helping patients recover from their spine ailments so they can become independent with self-treatment.”
Bill has a special interest in student education and is active in teaching PT students during their clinical internships. He also is involved in research projects designed to improve treatments and outcomes.
Bill graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in business administration. Since his graduation from East Tennessee State University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, he has earned several post-graduate certifications that focus on Manual Therapy evaluation and treatment.
In his spare time, Bill spends most of this time with his wife and three children. He is an active volunteer in his church.
Marketta Styles, PT
Marketta
Styles is a physical therapist with OrthoTennessee. She received
a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and
a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee
Health Science Center in Memphis. She is also a certified athletic trainer.
Marketta has been a physical therapist since 1997. She says her role in the clinic is to educate and assist patients with recovery from surgery or injury.
“I became a physical therapist because I was involved in gymnastics where I became very interested in how the body works,” Marketta says. “What I enjoy most about this job is meeting people.”
In her spare time, Marketta enjoys scrapbooking and hanging out with family.
Anita Tisdale, OT
Anita
Tisdale is an occupational therapist with OrthoTennessee. She
received a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Indiana University.
Anita has been a occupational therapist since 1985. She says her role in the clinic is to provide functional rehabilitation of hand and upper extremity injuries.
“I became a occupational therapist to help others,” Anita says. “What I enjoy most about my work is helping people to be able to do the things they did before their injury.”
In her spare time, Anita enjoys tennis, traveling, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
