PHYSICAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INCOMING 7TH AND 9TH GRADE ATHLETES:
The Tennessee State Board of Education has recommended that all incoming 7th and 9th grade athletes will need to complete an Early, Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) or well-child exam. This will include 7 components listed below:
- Health History
- Behavior and Mental Health Assessment
- Complete Physical Exam
- Lab tests that are individual specific (i.e. urinalysis, blood work, etc)
- Vision and Hearing Screening
- Immunizations
- Anticipatory Guidance- Tobacco, Drugs, and Seat Belts
Until the rule-making process is complete, however, either exam (the traditional sports physical or the comprehensive well-child checkup/EPSDT screen) will be accepted by the State Board of Education and by TSSAA.
If you chose to obtain a complete well child exam, please make arrangements to get the EPSDT done through their primary care physician or pediatrician.
