Benson A. Scott, M.D.

Sports Medicine

Dr. Benson A. Scott joined Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic in August 2008 and specializes in non-operative sports medicine. He recently completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama under the tutelage of Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Tracy Ray. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis and completed a residency in Family Medicine at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

Dr. Scott was team physician for the University of West Alabama during his fellowship and has served as resident team physician for the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Central High School in Chattanooga, and The McCallie School, also in Chattanooga. In addition, he was the covering physician for the 2007 and 2008 SEC Women’s Soccer Tournament and he was a member of the host medical staff at the NCAA Division I-AA football national championship and the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Tournament for the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games while in Chattanooga. He is also active in his church and involved in medical and sports missions.

Dr. Scott's goal is to help patients return to a lifestyle or playing field that they are used to.  He enjoys managing new injuries, fractures, osteoarthritis, and overuse issues and has special interests in treating throwing injuries and caring for the young athlete.

Dr. Scott and his wife Toni, both Knoxville natives and graduates of the University of Tennessee, are happy to return to Knoxville with their two children. He loves spending time with his family and when he isn’t involved in local sporting events, Dr. Scott enjoys playing golf, snow skiing, hunting and fishing.
