Robert E. Ivy, M.D.

Biography

Dr. Robert Ivy attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. He was awarded the prestigious Justin Potter Academic Scholarship to Vanderbilt Medical School and received his medical degree from Vanderbilt in 1988. Dr. Ivy was elected to the Alpha Omicron Alpha medical honor society.

He completed a one year general surgical internship and four year residency program in Orthopaedic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Ivy finished his training with a one year fellowship in hand and micro-vascular surgery at the nationally renowned Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dr. Ivy joined Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic in 1994. He is a specialist in the treatment of hand and elbow disorders. Dr. Ivy has been selected by his peers to the "Best Doctors in America". In addition, he has been voted by Cityview Magazine to the "Top Doctors in Knoxville" every year since 2003.

He is a member of multiple medical societies including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Ivy is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and possesses the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons certificate of added qualification in surgery of the hand. He has presented at multiple medical meetings and recently authored a book chapter in Operative Techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Ivy has been the hand consultant to the University of Tennessee Athletic Department for the past 12 years.

Dr. Ivy and his wife, Carney, have been married for 25 years. They have three children. He and Carney are very active in their church and children’s activities. He enjoys hiking, backpacking, and cycling in his spare time.
